Venti

I kept coming here and starting to write something down, only to really how utterly fucking self-important I sound. Then I remembered that I'm not writing this for you fuckers, I'm writing it for my own benefit, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm pretty fucking important, so that's fine.

未来

I still have a way to go before I graduate in May 2009, but judging by how quickly my life has flashed by for the last five years, it is with no real surprise that I find myself contemplating what I want to spend my life after university doing, and where I want to do it.

My three months living in Japan thus far has given me a thirst for travel, and for the world outside of the island borders of my home nation. Britain has a lot to offer, and I want to die there surrounded by a large and loving family. but in the meantime I feel like I should go and work somewhere abroad. It could be Japan, North America or virtually anywhere else.

I guess it really depends on what I want to do, and that is a decision I’d really like someone else to make for me. My degree will be a massive factor in my career ambitions. It is in a competitive field which is in demand, and I’ve no doubt that I could find a job where I put my linguistic skills to the test - but I fear I may end up being an office boy, glorified salesman. Etc.

The more glamourous options for me are two-fold. I worked in the summer for a professional football team back in England, and the chance to combine my undying passion for the sport with a professional interest was great. I spent my days around football, and footballing people and it is something I’d love to get into full-time, though In what capacity I don’t know.

The second option, and the one I have been set on for the longest time is to become a full-time web designer. I’ve been doing it for a long-time and it is something which I love to do, and am obsessively passionate about. The great thing about web design is that aside from some cultural nuances, the skills are in demand the world-over. It could be my ticket to working here in Japan, in the States, or anywhere else where the right opportunity comes along.

Of course there is always the outside chance that I could combine two of these aims. Working as a web designer in Japan, or as a designer for a football club are top of my lofty list of pie in the sky career aspirations right now. Trouble is, these positions don’t really exist within the football world outside of the elite clubs, and Japan is rather stingy on the money front for a run of the mill front-end designer.

I could, and probably should spend the next two years building a professional network of either people in football or in the web industry, but before I can do that I need to make a decision as to which direction I want to focus all of my energies. Web design is the safe horse, I know a lot about it, a lot of people who do it, and think I have a good reputation for putting out good work.

There is no answer right now, because I don’t want to rule out anything before it is dead in the water.
